Preface: When I travel, I pack like a barbarian --- sort of like Kelly Cutrone (and no offense Kelly, I idolize you). I throw all my shit in a bag & forget tons of stuff. It's also crucial to mention, (particularly regarding work travel), I pack everything black & the last thing that's on my mind is minor beauty products.
So when I heard a whisper that a certain NY hotel is offering complementary clear makeup cases full of beauty emergency items to all guests. I took a deeper whiff & got word on the promo:
Launched on March 1st, All NYC locations of Affinia hotels will provide guests with *free* e.l.f emergency beauty kits (the kit contains - you guessed it - emergency items you probably forgot to pack).
Remember when Farouk came out with Biosilk?
It was madness. Most salons & beauty supply stores couldn't stock it fast enough.
If the word gets out about Redken's new Wool Shake 08; I think we can be repeating Biosilk history.
Wool Shake 08 is a spray gel shake for your hair that promises "top volume and texture."
When I saw it; I loved the chunky bottle and the label (just teetering on the edge of tacky-salon-product-meets-edgy-cool).
When I tried it; I was sold. Maybe for life...
Everyone always asks me for referrals for teeth whitening. To be 100% honest, I've never had my teeth whitened (although I've been meaning to). Here's a referral + a deal...
PS: Yes, if you have good dental insurance, you probably get your cleaning for free. So look @ this as getting a good deal on whitening and your cleaning gratis.

Guess what? It's almost Spa Week (April 12 - 18, 2010).
I was just having a sniff at what spas I should be going to, when I popped over to Spa Week Daily and came across this amusing nugget:
Japan's All Nippon Airlines (ANA) is the first major airline carrier to introduce NON co-ed bathrooms inflight. (SpaWeekBlog)
I'm wondering if the women's bathrooms will be outfitted with ANA branded tampons & napkins?
And, will the gents have branded fart spray?
We love this; but, there goes the Mile High Club when flying to Japan.
PS: Yes, that is a picture of a ANA jet back from their Pokemon phase in 99'.
I was recently telling some expat friends of mine that if they think MTV's (inaccurate) portrayal of the Jersey Shore made ratings, MTV is seriously missing out on another untapped market: the Russians.
Funny enough, this morning The Post ran a story about TV producer, Elina Miller, who wants to do exactly this: produce a spin-off to MTV's Jersey Shore but have the focus be on Russians, calling the show, Brighton Beach.
Ahh, Elina... a brilliant idea... and before I give you some pointers; I'd like to tell you, where MTV went wrong with Jersey Shore.
Some street cred about moi:
Call me a Tri-State / Boro Hoochie, but I've lived all over: Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Staten Island, Manalapan (true: I went to HS with the Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino) & summer shares in Belmar (hi girls! and ugh -- djais).
I come from a booming Italian-American family, father with an ''import export business'', and I've come a long way; to where I live now. I moved on up, way up -- to the Upper East Side.
Now, I'm not ashamed by my ethnographic background; but, MTV could've surely done better than that mishmosh of a cast they slobbed together that makes up the Jersey Shore.
I mean, where did they find these people?
They certainly didn't come from the true epi-center of Italian-Americans (Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Gravesend, South East Annadale, etc...) that flock down to the shore. (And on another note. MTV chose Seaside? Who goes there, besides Generation Y'ers post HS prom?)
I've told you about my personal love affair with Ricky's... I remember the good old days, when they were just few blocks away from Canal Jeans (God rest CJ's little soul).
Throughout my affair, when Ricky's started expanding, I shunned them for being a sell-out, but then re-joined the masses, when I realized I couldn't bear to go without my Mattese lipsticks.
Well, guess what?
Ricky's newest launch, Revolver Salon, has two more locations popping up this March.
When Ricky's PR emailed me about the new salon locations, the email was entitled:
"Revolver For Frugal Fashionistas," and while I wouldn't go as far as calling them the Foxy-Brown-Ill-Na-Na Frugalista cheap, I do think they offer aggressive prices, and a much better environment than, say, real cheapO chop shop, The Lemon Tree.
Menu & new locations after the jump.
Late last year, designer, Lisa Perry, transformed the former Madison Avenue Citibank into her flagship Manhattan store.
Now downstairs from her flagship, Perry just opened up The Vault, which offers discounted merchandise with everything *around* 75 %.
Does *around* mean about 70% off, or more like 40% off?
Apparently, The Vault will feature $200, $300 and $400 racks and a table of pick-me-up items - accessories, books, trinkets - that range in price from $5 to $100.
I love the thrill of a good bargain, so I'll be stopping by to check it out this weekend.
Location: Lisa Perry, 976 Madison Ave near 76th Street
I polled a couple of the GC girls & asked them what they knew about Hanae Mori.
"Hmmm...," was the response.
So while, I was set out to do this post telling you about her new fragrance & how the company is integrating themselves into the Olympics, I'll switch it up a bit; and give you some background info:
"Hanae Mori is one of the most prominent and respected fashion designers in Japan. She is the only Japanese woman to have presented her collections on the runways of Paris and New York, and the first Asian woman to be admitted as an official haute couture design house by the fédération française de la couture in France. She is also the most honored female designer in Japan. Being one of the first women to have a career in Japan, she is widely regarded as an icon of the liberated women. Her fashion house, opened in Japan in 1951, grew to become a $500 million international business by the 1990's," -Wikipedia.
Mori has since retired from her fashion reign; however, still actively markets her fragrance line: Hanae Mori Parfums.
Ring a bell yet?
